Legacy Building
I’ve always been inquisitive. I think too much. I want to know all that I can. Most importantly, I always wanted to know, “why?” I have thought a lot about intention setting, what it signifies, and how important it is. I am big on transparency, so I want to share this with you.
My concept of legacies has constantly transformed as I have grown. When I was a child, I believed that MLK and Malcolm X left legacies, for they changed the perceptions of the world through their words and actions. And I agree, they have extraordinary legacies; however, my observations of our community led me to believe that legacies are built in the most nuanced of ways.
When we attend our parents’ alma maters, we are legacies. When we partake in family and community traditions, we are continuing legacies. But, I wanted to go further. What will my legacy be.
Well, I hope that my legacy consists of three things: a strong love ethic, community work, and unwavering peace. I know that my legacy will be a domino effect of positive impact. I know that I will continue my commitment to authenticity and humanity, growing through my choices and accepting them. My words will always be intentional, my actions certain and purposeful. My impact will not be to only make people better by my standards, but it will be to make people more human, more loving, more present.
